About This Event
October belongs to the horror fans.
Every Monday this October, Upstairs @ Uptown becomes a screening room. Big picture, big sound, full bar, and a room built for people who actually want to watch a movie with other people instead of alone on a couch.
This is the newly finished room above the Uptown Theater on Broadway. Comfortable, intimate, and just the right amount of unsettling once the lights go down.
Four Mondays. Four very different flavors of horror. A grindhouse nightmare, an anthology that has become a modern Halloween staple, a horror comedy that flips the whole genre on its head, and the film that started it all.
Seating is limited and first come, first served. Come early, grab a drink, get a good seat.
The Lineup
Monday, October 5: House of 1000 Corpses
Rob Zombie's filthy, feverish debut. A carnival of grime, screaming color, and characters you will not shake off easily. Loud, mean, and unforgettable.
Monday, October 12: Trick 'r Treat
Four Halloween stories braided into one perfect October night, all watched over by a small burlap-sacked figure who takes the rules of the holiday very seriously. If you only see one movie this month, make it this one.
Monday, October 19: Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Two good-hearted hillbillies. A group of college kids who assume the worst. A pile of misunderstandings and a rising body count. The funniest horror movie of the last twenty years and a great one to watch in a packed room.
Monday, October 26: Halloween (1978)
The blueprint. Carpenter's original still works exactly as intended, and it works best in the dark with an audience holding its breath. Michael Myers on a big screen, days before Halloween itself.
